The suburb of Mount Claremont started properly developing in the 1980's and 1990's. The suburb was built on the site of the former Graylands Teachers College.
John XXIII opened on its Mount Claremont site in 1986.
It is situated on land where the old Swanbourne Hospital once stood.
The main Montgomery Hall from the hospital still remains at the top of our school on Heritage Lane.
The Council successfully negotiated the purchase of the present 24.6 ha site for John XXIII College.
The planning, which began in 1981, was brought to fruition when the students moved to the new site at Mt Claremont on 11 May, 1986.
Since then, there have been many additions but all in the same architectural style.
Lake Claremont was declared a Conservation Category Wetland and Bush Forever site. It is also now recognised as a significant site of Aboriginal heritage.
